Smoking Cessation

In 1992 New Scientist Magazine published the results of an extensive clinical study on the most effective smoking cessation methods. A meta-analysis, statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies (over 72,000 individual cases) showed the following success rates:

24% - Acupuncture

10% - Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)

6% - Willpower alone

Stopping smoking requires will-power and motivation and is of particular importance to me following my years of NHS practice within oncology.  When your motivation is combined with effective hypnotherapy, studies indicate you are five to fifteen times more likely to succeed than by willpower alone.  In our Stop Smoking sessions we use a range of powerful techniques to ensure you get the best chance to quit.  We will create a unique treatment session for you, based on proven methods from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Clinical Hypnotherapy.

CBT aims to change thoughts and behaviours to bring about positive change.  It has the strongest evidential backing of the psychotherapies and is now the treatment of choice under the NHS.  Clinical hypnotherapy takes you into a state of heightened suggestibility, so we can work directly to create new beliefs, patterns and habits.  Research studies where CBT and hypnotherapy are applied together have shown that they are strongly complementary and their effectiveness is raised when used in combination.

We begin by assessing the personal habit and motivation, as this is key to success and providing you’re prepared to be a non-smoker, we’ll create ways which prepare you to stop.  During an extended 2.5 hour session we’ll review your smoking and motivations in depth before using a whole package of techniques to dismantle your habit.  This session includes clinical education over the impact of smoking before developing skills, a new belief structure and inspiration to stop smoking immediately.

 

You will have the skills you need to remain a non-smoker and we’ll develop further tools that you can use during challenging moments in the weeks following.  This includes tailored self-hypnosis CD’s, phone support and a back up treatment session for the following weeks.  Most people only require one session, but we provide the extra backup you need to stay a happy, healthy non-smoker.
