Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a process which involves an individual becoming deeply relaxed so we can explore issues clearly without excessive cognitive functions or emotional influence.  Once relaxed, we then use powerful suggestions to stimulate change and enhance the natural ability for clients to process and overcome issues.

Hypnosis is not sleep - you are fully aware throughout the session.

What does it feel like?

It is a pleasurable and invigorating experience - the best description of which is that you are fully aware of everything, but it feels so nice that you can’t really be bothered to do anything but accept and enjoy the process.

Will I be in Control?

Absolutely yes.  Clinical hypnosis has no relation at all to the stage shows you may have seen, as we work together to enhance the skills that you wish to develop.  Hypnosis is not a passive process that someone can do to you - it requires the engagement of all normal functions and to be fully aware during the sessions.  You will be able to engage, speak and accept which aspects you wish to from the session and we cannot make you behave in an unnatural way.

How long do sessions last?

The majority of sessions are booked for 1 hour, except for the smoking cessation course which consists of a 2.5 hour session.

How long does the course of treatment last?

This depends on the nature of the issue and the overall aims of therapy.  Typically we would be looking between 5 to 10 sessions for the majority of issues, but this will be determined collaboratively during the initial consultations.

What is the cost of treatment?

Sessions are booked for a cost of £40 for standard treatments and this includes all costs and support materials.

Smoking cessation courses are booked for 2.5 hour sessions, with a further follow up session 2 weeks post treatment.  The total cost for the smoking cessation course is £195 and this includes all costs and support materials.

What do I get to support this process?

You will receive expert advice and support throughout the treatment.  With personalised recordings of your sessions to listen to at home, guided work and regular review between sessions alongside phone support for the times you need us.

There will be work to be completed between sessions and this is used to reinforce the change, develop the skills being taught and maximising the chances of success.

For the smoking cessation courses, we also offer a complimentary follow up session 2 weeks after the initial treatment to ensure the skills are working.

Is anyone suitable for Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapy?

Everyone has the ability to use this process.  The key factors for a successful treatment are the individuals motivation for change and the practice of skills between sessions.  If we feel the motivation or therapy choice is not suitable for the individual or the goal of therapy is unrealistic, we will not recommend CBH, but can help you search for other treatment options that could work.

CBH is not advised for individuals dealing with psychosis or severe depression.  It is only suitable for sub-clinical psychological conditions and does not replace any medical advice or recommendations.
